"Tobo Haruka" is one of the few small pottery studios in Japan that is in harmony with nature. I put premium on sharpening my sensibilities in the natural environment and balancing my mind and body so that I can consciously work more on pottery. While turning “clay” into “pottery” has been my practice, I always see to it that I care for the condition of the clay changing by weather conditions and the flow of my mental energy changing in daily life. Simultaneously, I proceed with the work while imaging the shape and texture of the finished artwork. The feeling of nature that comes from the clay while moving my hands is connected to my deep memory of my childhood, which awakens my imagination and subsequently appears in its shape and texture. The meaning of creating pottery is not only an expression of myself as an artist, but also conveying to people the joy of using pottery in daily life and the joy of connecting with other people and nature through that experience. I would like to convey the importance of living simpler and making things with my hands, head and heart by my continuing to create pottery for everyday use using material from the earth where I live.
